Meet the Artist

Hi there!

My name is Jackie Rae Dowell. I’m a self taught, Oregon native, multi-media artist.

My art is heavily shaped by my Western Heritage, as well as a passion for history and all things whimsical. Much of my work draws inspiration from archival photographs, movies, TV shows, other artists’ works, (my favs being Charlie Russel, Jules Bastien-Lepage)  and most of all, my own historic family photographs. I’m especially fond of portraying women in historic and powerful settings, blended with a unique imaginative nuance. Along with my smaller works on paper and canvas, I have also had the pleasure of  painting several public, and private, commissioned  murals.

I work in acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and occasionally oil. In acrylic, I tend to lean into  an unfocused impressionistic take. I love an unblended rough stroke style with chunky highlights and shadows. I’m always learning, and love to try new methods to get the stories of the beauty of the past out into the world. Thank you for your interest and support.
